I am writing this post from Google Chrome, a lightweight browser by Google released as Beta. As I have expected it looks like Google Talk. Google is The Minimalist that focuses on usability and important features. What I like about Chrome is the large area for page, less buttons - less clutter. And usually when you install a new browser it forces you to download the Flash plugin for it but this one didn't - YouTube just works. Well YouTube is Google so it should! :-D
Chrome got rid of the title bar and opted to place the tab on the top instead. Like the phone dialer of Opera Browser - chrome does the same but uses it to display most visited pages. Clever.
Unfortunately, Java applets do not work and haven't found a way to add the Java plugin for it. But the installer for Chrome was barely 800 kb, wow. I couldn't care less for the bulk of features the other browsers have if I want to just surf, Google Chrome works for me.
The list of things I liked about Chrome:
- When opening a link to a new tab from a page, the tab opens right next to the referral tab.
- Dragging and droping a tab to the viewing area opens the tab in a new window.
- Moving around tabs is more fluid than in Firefox.
- The ability to open an incognito window or open a page that does not get logged in the history.
- Faster load times especially on Youtube.
- Bigger viewing area- Chrome got rid of the title bar which was a wise move since its redundant with the title in the current tab.
- Like in Firefox 3, suggestions works
- Bookmark button doesn't interfere with surfing. In Firefox 3 I always accidentally click on this because it gets toggled on after the clicking "go".
- Status bar only shows when needed at least it does work on my XP.
- Less clutter on first installation.
